Dallas Airport Chooses Outsight’s 3D LiDAR Solution to Transform Its Operational Management

The Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) was seeking a next-generation technological solution to enhance security, optimize its operations, and streamline the transit of tens of millions of travelers annually. It selected Outsight, starting with an initial contract phase estimated at $17.2 million.

In 2019, Dibotics, a company specializing in real-time 3D perception, entered a new phase. Its co-founders, Raul Bravo and Olivier Garcia, experts in autonomous vehicles and robotics, joined forces with Cédric Hutchings (co-founder of Withings) and Scott Buchter (co-founder of Lasersec) to create a new entity: Outsight. The goal: to develop a LiDAR data analysis software.

Indeed, although modern LiDAR sensors have become affordable and efficient, their use is limited by the complexity of processing raw data and the lack of standardization among the many suppliers. These constraints hinder their widespread adoption, as only highly specialized teams can derive direct operational value from them. This is precisely where Outsight intervenes: by offering a unified software layer, the company makes spatial intelligence accessible and interoperable.

Unlike video surveillance systems or solutions based on Wi-Fi networks, its LiDAR technology relies on Edge Computing to produce 3D perception and localization data, without capturing images or using personal data from mobile phones. Its spatial AI platform is compatible with different brands of LiDAR sensors. This approach ensures technological scalability and deployment flexibility that meet the operational requirements of a complex site like DFW. The analysis of people and vehicle movements is done in real-time, enabling proactive traffic management, congestion prevention, and improved passage times in critical areas.

Groupe ADP, the company managing major Parisian airports, including Paris-Charles de Gaulle, Paris-Orly, and Paris-Le Bourget, as well as other airports like Rome, have also chosen Outsight’s software, recently identified by Gartner as a key player in spatial computing.

This deployment illustrates the gradual shift of LiDAR from its initial applications in autonomous vehicles to broader use cases, notably in public infrastructure and smart mobility. The use of edge computing in this context enhances the ability to locally process large volumes of data without resorting to the cloud, ensuring immediate responsiveness and better data sovereignty. The start-up also joined the Airports AI Alliance in early April, an initiative dedicated to the responsible adoption of AI in the aviation sector, of which DFW is one of the founding members.

Raul Bravo, president and co-founder of Outsight, concludes:

“This project represents a major milestone in the adoption of LiDAR-based spatial intelligence in American airports. With large-scale deployments already underway in Asia and Europe, the DFW project confirms that LiDAR spatial intelligence is becoming a global standard — an evolution that Outsight is proud to lead. We are excited to bring this breakthrough technology to one of the world’s busiest airports.”
