SVUSD hires new maintenance, operations manager

Most recently, Steven Jordan served as communications manager for the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District.

Steven Jordan, who has 23 years of experience serving in fleet and facility management for government support operations, has been hired as the director of maintenance, operations and transportation for Sonoma Valley Unified School District.

“Steven is filling a new position that we have this year,” said Rena Seifts, the district’s acting superintendent. “(Maintenance manager) Doug Weidemann retired on June 30 and our transportation manager (Dave Sandoval) left in May. As a cost savings measure, we combined these two positions as is done in many medium-sized districts.”

Most recently, Jordan served as communications manager for the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District from August 2017 to January.

He also performed two roles during his tenure with the San Bernardino County Fire Department: support services manager from April 2015 to August 2017 and fire equipment mechanic from December 2003 to April 2015.

He received a bachelor’s degree in public administration from California State University, San Bernardino in 2016 and a master’s in executive fire administration from Arizona State University’s Watts College of Public Service and Community Solutions in 2019.

“Mr. Jordan’s mechanical background, coupled with his education and experience as a manager, has helped him to become a well-balanced leader who can collaborate with team members and industry partners to increase efficiency and complete projects,” according to an SVUSD news release announcing his hiring. “He understands both technical and management sides of fleet and facility management and brings with him an extensive perspective and skill set.”

Jordan described his priorities and leadership style in the news release.

“My highest priority is to provide safe and reliable facilities, grounds and transportation to the staff and students of Sonoma Valley Unified School District through extensive preventative maintenance programs,” he said. “Other priorities include providing premier customer service, fiscal accountability and efficient operations.

“My operating principles include empowering others with the tools and training needed to be successful in their roles while also giving them opportunities to learn, grow and expand their skill set.”
